Hands up: who remembers Hogs of War? Published by Infogrames late in the PS1's life, this was a 3D, military-themed, turn-based strategy game, only instead of human soldiers, it was pigs at war with each other. Playing a little bit like a 3D Worms (before Worms 3D existed), it secured cult hit status thanks to its silly British humour and fun multiplayer battles. If you're among those who fondly remember this oddball title, you're in luck — it's coming back.
Hogs of War Lardcore is the name of the project, and it's an official remaster of the game, targeting a launch on PS5 and PS4. With a team led by the original developer's CEO, Ian Stewart, Lardcore is bringing the porky strategy title to modern machines with updated visuals and, if all goes well, online multiplayer and a multi-platform release. Meanwhile, it'll retain the original game's voice acting and soundtrack.
While it appears the project has made some good progress, the team at Urbanscan is taking it to Kickstarter in order to raise funds for the remainder of the remaster's development. The campaign begins in one week, starting on 17th October 2023 and running through to 16th November. In that time, the team is looking to raise £150,000, with stretch goals that'll allow the implementation of online networking, new gameplay options, and a port to PC.
What do you think of this project? Will you be pledging some money to make Hogs of War Lardcore a reality? Go ham with those pig puns in the comments section below.

This was so fun back in the day, did not expect this to make a comeback. Day 1 purchase better than worms.
Think it will lose something without Rik Mayall doing the voiceover. I enjoyed it back in the day seems strange that it seemed to be forgotten when people recall PS1 games
Brilliant game, voice acting was superb from Rik, just a good fun game which I remember fondly. Day 1 for me too if it happens.
@bindiana Ah I forgot to include this detail — according to the website, the remaster will have the original voice acting and soundtrack! Added that to the article
Oh my goodness. Never thought i'd hear about this again. What a game!
I actually bought the PS1 classic version of this and have it on the Vita. Love this game! If it does end up getting funded I'd pick up a copy for sure. One of my childhood favorites right here!
Oh my God. This game was absolutely unreal back in the day. I might have to back this…
Please And Hope For Team Buddies Next
unpopular opinion but this games good faith is purely nostalgia goggles.
i didnt own it at the time (but remember a friend who did) I tried it for the first time a few years back and thought it was pretty naff
Great game. Still have the OG version I purchased back in the day!!
YES!
This was bloody awesome and having Rik’s voice back again will be great.
Day one purchase for me whatever happens.
Classic. But when are we going to get BISHI BASHI SPECIAL SONY 😂😂😂😂😂
Would rather see Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf get the remake treatment from Infogrames catalogue of old games.
I remember this one, great game, huge fun!!!
@Quintumply so Rik Mayall wil be there in all his glory? Sign me up
Oh my god yessss. Hogs of war is one of my favourite games glad they are finally doing a remaster
I will be pleasantly surprised if this remaster does keep the original voice acting considering how much of it is bordering on racist nowadays. Especially the Japanese team that wears yellow and sound like Jerry Lewis impersonators.
Wow! I had (and still have) this game as a kid! I remember there was talk of a sequel at one point (PS2 days) but it never happened. Can’t believe it’s coming back!
I remember it not being very good but looking at the comments I think it was just me! At the time I just thought it was a janky 3D worms and that was it.
Interesting. I never heard of this game before and I really enjoy Worms.
Hopefully their kickstarter campaign is successful.
@Shigurui Sheep dog n wolf is another one of my favourite games. Hope one day we’ll have a remaster of it, really glad we are getting a remaster for hogs of war finally after all these years. Hope we get one sheep dog n wolf one day too
@FinneasGH really? Hogs of war is one of my favourite games
@VeldinX yeah I remember seeing that before, same as shadow of Rome was getting a sequel but that was cancelled, same with a few other games as well
@Deadlyblack Hogs of war sadly wasn’t as well known as Worms but in my opinion was miles better then the Worms games back on the PS one. Pretty sure that they’ll get funded pretty quickly, when there was the Kickstarter for the miniatures board game that was funded rather quickly
This was great fun for multi player, I remember passing the controller around the room and everyone having a laugh. Rik Mayall voice work on this game was the icing and cherry on the cake!
Damn, this was my first PS1 game (during the PS2 times), I got a PS1 memory card for it.
Good memories, and I wish the best for the team!
